New Name, Who’s This? From Kanye West to Just Ye

American rapper and songwriter Kanye West officially changed his name from Kanye West to Ye. 

Kanye West has filed to legally change his name from Kanye West to Ye. In August, he filed for legal permission to change his name after contemplating on the name change since 2019.  

According to CNN, Judge Michelle Williams granted the name change on Monday in California from the filed petition back in August. The name change seemed to be hinted by the rapper in 2018, when he released his album titled Ye and tweeted about his new name.

Ye knows exactly how to keep his fans and supporters on their feet. Back in 2019, he proposed the idea of changing his name to “Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West” for a while. Recently, his wife Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce after the couple supposedly had been living apart.  

Ye was a trending topic back in August when he released his long-anticipated album Donda. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. According to Billboard, the release made him only the seventh artist to release 10 number one albums with the year’s biggest week for any album.
