Nick Cannon Mourns Youngest Son Zen Who Died of Brain Cancer

In Summary

The television host, who welcomed his son in June, took the 5-month-old to the doctor for what he thought was a routine visit, quickly finding out Zen had a brain tumor.

An emotional Nick Cannon announced on Tuesday that his 5-month-old son Zen died of brain cancer.

Cannon shared the heartbreaking news on The Nick Cannon Show on Tuesday, sharing with the audience that he started noticing changes with his youngest son, thinking it was a sinus issue.

“I always noticed he had a cough and so I wanted to check it out,” he said. “He had this interesting breathing and by the time he was two months, I noticed he had this nice sized head too—a Cannon head. We didn’t think anything of it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine.”

The 41-year-old star welcomed Zen, his seventh child, with Alyssa Scott in June.

During the doctor visit for what he thought was a sinus issue, he and Scott discovered fluid was building in Zen’s head and he had a malignant tumor, resulting in him getting surgery.

The talk show host said things worsened for Zen around Thanksgiving when they found out the tumor was growing quickly. The father went on to say he took the opportunity to spend more time with Zen, revealing he held his son for the last time this past weekend.

“This weekend I made an effort to spend the most quality time with Zen. We woke up on Sunday and went to the ocean with him and Alyssa and then I had to fly back to New York for the show,” a tearful Cannon said. “I got a call on my way to the airport to head back to Zen.”

The father of seven said the episode was a celebration of Zen’s life. Sources told Entertainment Tonight Cannon will be taking time off from the show.
