Nigerian Singer Davido’s Birthday Requests Becomes Act of Charity

In Summary

What started off as a seemingly expensive birthday request turned into an amazing charitable moment from Davido when donators “gifted” money to others instead.

Musician Davido announced he is donating $600,000 to orphanages across Nigeria after an impromptu online plea.

In a tweet, Davido stated if he made “you a hit song” to send him money, which caused an amount of confusion.

According to CNN, Davido’s fundraiser was last week. Initially, he said the fund was to get his Rolls Royce released from a port and requested roughly $240,000. He reportedly reached out to celebrity friends and followers putting out his banking information for deposits.

Ten minutes after his announcement, he had raised $17,000. By Saturday, the total amount raised was over $485,000 after receiving a push from his celebrity friends and others.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, released a statement admitting to using the funds for charity as his birthday gift.

The Nigerian singer, who is best known for songs “Dami Duro” and “Fall,” is no stranger to charitable acts. He’s frequently giving proceeds from his music video “Dolce & Gabbana” for pandemic relief as well as giving out more than 6,000 bags of rice to his hometown of Osun.
