Police in Tennessee has released body-camera footage from the April 12 shooting at a Knoxville high school that left a Black teen dead.

According to WMC 5, District Attorney Charme Allen said police responded to the school to arrest Anthony Thompson at Austin-East Magnet High School after a report of a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend.

After searching for ten minutes, officers found Thompson in a bathroom and a struggle began.

Police initially said Thompson fired a gun, hitting school resource officer Adam Wilson in the leg before being shot and killed.

They later determined that the resource officer was shot by police

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released an updated timeline of events indicating the correction.

Allen held a press conference on Wednesday, releasing the body camera footage one week after the shooting took place. According to News Channel 9, Allen said the investigation is complete.

Thompson’s family was shown the footage and asked that it not be released until after his funeral, but Allen proceeded against their request.

“I speak on behalf of my family today with a broken heart and spirit. We wanted the public to see that tape. We asked Allen out of respect for my nephew not to release it till we bury my nephew,” Thompson’s aunt Angela Elder said

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is representing the family in their pursuit of justice as no charges are being filed against the officers.

Demonstrators gathered in Knoxville to protest the ruling and amplify their calls for justice.

According to CNN, the death of Thompson comes months after four other students at the school died.

Austin-East Magnet High School is identified as a Title I school that is granted financial assistance due to the high percentage of children from low-income families.
