NY Attorney General Subpoenas Ivanka Trump and Don Jr

In Summary

The subpoenas stem from an investigation into the Trump Organization.

New York’s attorney general subpoenaed former President Donald Trump’s children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, in an investigation into their family’s business practices, according to the Associated Press.

The news was made public in court on Monday, where a judge was set to look over a dispute about a subpoena involving the ex-president.

For two years, New York Attorney General Letitia James has looked into the Trump Organization after information came out that the company allegedly misled tax officials and banks about “the valuation of properties owned or controlled” by the company, AP reported.

Attorneys for the Trump Organization blasted James, saying that her investigation into the business is politically motivated.

“Letitia James is the single most unethical Attorney General this country has ever seen,” Trump Organization attorney Alina Habba told CNN. “The way she has weaponized her office through this political witch hunt exceeds all bounds of prosecutorial standards and violates basic constitutional rights. Her actions are a threat to our democracy and I plan to hold her accountable to the fullest extent.”

The company sued James’ office last month, claiming the investigation was unconstitutional and she was biased against the former president, CNN reported.

The New York attorney general’s office and Manhattan’s district attorney have teamed up on the Trump Organization investigation.
