Two U.S passengers are facing a nearly $16,000 fine for using fake vaccination cards to fly to Canada. The Hill reports that the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) shared in a statement that during a July 18th flight, the two passengers were caught presenting false COVID-19 vaccination credentials.
In result, both passengers received four fines that totaled $19,720 in Canadian currency. The Canadian statement reported that those who present fraudulent and false vaccination information to authorities will face criminal charges, a six-month stint in prison and a maximum fine of $750,000.
“The Government of Canada will continue to investigate incidents reported and will not hesitate to take enforcement action where it is warranted to protect the health of Canadians from the further spread of COVID-19 and its variants of concern,” PHAC said.
The Washington Post reports that travelers who are fully vaccinated can be exempt from quarantining if they provide their vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test.
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise amid the Delta variant domination of the original coronavirus pandemic, many countries are taking the proper precautions.
