2 people shot in Frederick, Maryland; Suspect killed at Fort Detrick

Police in Frederick, Maryland responded to an active shooter incident Tuesday morning. 

According to WJLA, police reported that there were two victims and one suspect “down.”

The incident took place in the 8400 block of Progress Drive. 

Residents were asked to avoid the area. 

Police held a press conference on Tuesday morning to update the public hours after the incident.

Police said they received a call about the shooter around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Riverside Tech Park.

When they arrived on scene at a business in Riverside Tech Park, police found two men shot and they were transported to the hospital by helicopter. Both are in critical condition.

They were identified as 26-year-old US Navy Hospitalman Casey Nutt and 36-year-old Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Carlos Portugal.

The shooter, identified as 38-year-old Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, then traveled to the Fort Detrick military base where he was shot and killed.

The U.S. Navy released a statement on Twitter about the shooting.
