President Biden is expected to announce updated guidance on masks from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The guidance is still being finalized, but it will likely ease recommendations that Americans wear masks even while outdoors, sources told The Hill.
Biden is set to outline the changes in a speech addressing the nation on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday, CNN reported.
He is also expected to announce other new recommendations for fully vaccinated people in addition to the mask update.
The Biden administration reached the president’s goal of administering 200 million coronavirus vaccines in his first 100 days in office.
Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Texas and Wyoming have lifted their mask mandates by orders of state governors.
Kansas and Utah lifted the mandate with legislative action, while Wisconsin did so with a court order.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
