Tallahassee, Florida—July 24, 2019–Black News Channel (BNC), the nation’s only African American news network, announces today that Grammy award-winning record executive, film and television music supervisor, and film producer Amir Windom will serve as the network’s executive in charge of creative services, entertainment, and music. Windom is regarded as one of the nation’s top rising young leaders and creative minds of his generation.

Windom has big ideas about the role creatives will play on the culturally-specific network that speaks directly to African Americans. Currently, he is working on creating original scores and music for BNC’s news programming and original shows. Windom is also working with Gary Wordlaw, vice president of news and programming at BNC, to develop original shows about music, fashion, technology, and other entertainment content. Windom is responsible for building meaningful partnerships between the arts and entertainment world and BNC in order for Black News Channel to become the “go-to” network for all-things entertainment. Windom joining the network’s executive team provides a direct connection between the world of entertainment and BNC’s viewing audience.

“Creativity has always been a main platform for telling our story. Without art and creativity in the African American community, we are muted. Television, music, film, and all things creative will be BLACK, PROUD and LOUD on our network,” says Windom. “Not only is it important to tell the whole story, but we must also tell it in a way that is authentic and relatable to our viewing audience. I want Creatives to know that Black News Channel is a place for them.”

Through his connections and insight into the entertainment world, he brings fresh, new ideas for programming that will break down currently accepted stereotypes and replace them with real and complete stories of people, issues, and events in the black community,” says network Vice President of News and Programming Gary Wordlaw. “Amir will play a key role in creating shows that entertain our viewers, as well as inform, empower, and educate them.”

Windom is a native of Atlanta, Georgia who started his career in the entertainment industry as an intern in the A&R division of well-known record label publishing companies. Windom quickly rose to an executive level in the A&R division where he was responsible for talent scouting and overseeing the artistic development of recording artists and songwriters. Windom has worked with some of today’s biggest stars including: Bruno Mars, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz, to name a few. Windom has worked on numerous GRAMMY Award-winning albums and film soundtracks that have earned gold and platinum status. Windom has also worked as a television and film music supervisor, producing and placing music, as well as creating music scores and creative strategies for major film companies like Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures and Lionsgate Films. In 2018, Windom executive produced and music supervised the critically-acclaimed film, Canal Street, starring FOX’s Empire star Bryshere Gray. Canal Street debuted in theaters across the nation.

Windom was honored with the prestigious “40/40” award by his alma mater, Florida A&M University, solely given to alumni under the age of 40 who have made outstanding career strides and achievements. Windom was designated a “Young Leader to Watch” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and named one of the “Top 35 Millennials” in the country by the Next Big Thing Movement.
