Report: Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson Fails Drug Test, Could Miss Olympics

Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who gained national attention last week for winning the 100-meter at the U.S. Olympic trials, could miss the Olympics for failing a drug test, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.

Richardson reportedly tested positive for marijuana, which is prohibited by the Olympic committee, sports reporter Tyler Dragon for the Cincinnati Enquirer said on Twitter.

“Sha’Carri Richardson did not use steroids, according to a source. Richardson is facing a 30-day suspension for testing positive for marijuana,” he said.

A month suspension would make Richardson miss the 100-meter race at the Olympics, but she could still run for the 4×100 relay, according to Dragon.

The Tokyo Olympics takes place from July 23 to Aug. 8.
