Right Now: Memorial In Houston For George Floyd

By Laverne McGee, BNC Journalist

Mourners have gathered at a public viewing in Houston to pay their respects to George Floyd, the man who died in police custody.

There has been a long line of family, friends, and local citizens gathered to pay their respects. Floyd died in Minneapolis but his hometown is in Houston, where his family will hold a private service tomorrow.

His death sparked widespread protests and calls for police reform. It’s reported that democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is meeting with the family privately today, but will not attend the funeral to avoid creating a disruption.

Apparently, he is providing a videotaped message. Today’s memorial is being held at the Fountain of Praise Church from 12p, -6pm local time.

Only 15 people are allowed inside and will not be allowed to stay longer than 10 minutes. Visitors are required to wear both masks and gloves due to Covid-19 concerns. Tomorrow, Floyd will be buried next to his mother at the Houston Memorial Gardens cemetery.
