Ron DeSantis Announces Anti-Critical Race Theory Bill ‘Stop Woke Act’

In Summary

The Stop Woke Act will keep schools from teaching critical race theory.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a new act titled the “Stop W.O.K.E. Act,” which will keep schools from educating students on critical race theory.

Per American Bar, critical race theory is the practice of interrogating the role of race and racism in society that emerged in the legal academy and spread to other fields of scholarship.

“Today, we are taking a stand against critical race theory in our schools and in the workplace by calling for the enactment of the Stop W.O.K.E. Act,” DeSantis announced on Twitter.

CRT only further divides children and teaches them to hate each other, he claimed. The “Stop Wrongs against Our Kids and Employees Act” would encourage parents to file lawsuits to fulfill the ban of critical race theory being taught in public school.

Additionally, the legislation will end funding for primary and secondary education if schools teach the theory and would keep CRT from being a part of employee training.

“It violates Florida standards to scapegoat someone based on their race, to say that they are inherently racist, to say that they are an oppressor, or oppressed or any of that and that’s good and that’s important. But we also have to realize that we have to do more to make sure that that actually carries the day in our classrooms and in our society,” DeSantis explained.
