Shots fired near memorial, celebrations to honor George Floyd

On the day that marks one year after Floyd was murdered, demonstrators were interrupted after shots were fired near memorial site George Floyd Square.

According to a spokesperson for the police, officers responded near Elliott Avenue for a report of gunshots. Callers told 911 operators that a suspect was seen leaving the scene in a car at a high rate of speed.  

Shortly after, a person showed up at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment, with an injury believed to be non-life-threatening.  

BNC Correspondent Nerissa Knight was at George Floyd Square when the gunshots were fired.  

Despite the shooting, events at the square resumed, honoring Floyd and the calls for justice.
