Southern Univ. and Jackson State game featured on ESPN

Southern University Athletics announced Tuesday that its football team, the Jaguars, would face off against the Jackson State Tigers.

According to a report from The Advocate in Baton Rouge, the April 3 matchup will be the first time that Southern University (SU) would “be televised on ESPN,” according to a report from The Advocate in Baton Rouge.

“This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to showcase their talents to a national television audience as well as the Southwestern Athletic Conference, so fans can see the pageantry of HBCU football,” said SU Director of Athletics Roman Banks in a release on the program’s website. “We are very excited for our student-athletes, coaches, fans and alumni.”

Former NFL superstar and Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders is in his first season as the head coach for the Tigers.
