Texas Democrats Who Fled State to Protest Voter Suppression Test Positive for COVID-19

Two more Texas House Democrats who left the state to prevent Republicans from passing a restrictive voting bill have tested positive for COVID-19.

They joined three other legislators who have tested positive for the virus, CNN reported.

“All of us are fully vaccinated and following CDC protocols. We knew the personal and professional risks we were taking when we decided to break quorum,” State Representative Art Fierro tweeted on Sunday. “We are still committed to stopping the Texas Republicans’ assault on voting rights.”

The Texas House Democratic Caucus met with Vice President Kamala Harris while in Washington, who was not put at risk, according to her chief spokesperson Symone Sanders.

“Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive and therefore do not need to be tested or quarantined,” Sanders said on Saturday.
