BET celebrated the “Year of the Black Woman” with its annual award ceremony. The BET awards returned to screens on June 27 with Award-winning actress and producer Taraji P. Henson as the host.

“Celebrating Black women isn’t a fad or a trend, it’s a forever mood,” Henson said, opening up the show. “There is more than enough room for all of us to thrive, because can’t nobody be like me and can’t nobody be you like you.”

Entertainment mogul Queen Latifah was the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. A few of Queen Latifah’s rap peers, including Lil Kim, Rapsody, MC Lyte and Monie Love, performed a tribute of some of her classic hits, “Ladies First” and “U.N.I.T.Y.” An emotional Latifah thanked her parents, siblings and business partner in her speech.

This year’s event was full of jaw-dropping moments, but one unforgettable surprise was the reveal of Cardi B’s second pregnancy.
