Following the catastrophe that left 10 people dead and hundreds injured at his own Astroworld festival in November, Coachella officials informed Scott’s longtime agent Cara Lewis of its intention to drop him from the lineup and pay a kill fee, according to Variety. Lewis was reportedly adamant about keeping the slot, which would have marked Scott’s return to the stage post-Astroworld.

In the days following the incident, a Change.org petition was established calling for Scott’s removal from Coachella’s roster, garnering more than 60,000 signatures.
“With the recent tragic and unnecessary death at Travis Scott’s Astroworld concert, due to Scott’s own gross negligence and sheer lack of compassion for human life, we ask AEG, Paul Tollet, and Goldenvoice to remove his as performer at all of their festivals,” per the petition, which was launched by Sendero Secreto.
Scott and Rage the Machine were the first two headliners to be confirmed for the 2022 festival, having been scheduled to perform in 2020 before the pandemic caused the cancelation.

Coachella, North America’s largest music festival, will take place on the weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-24 at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California.
Scott is unlikely to perform, let alone headline, any festival or event in the near future, as both fans and critics believe he is to blame for the crowd violence that transpired during his Astroworld concert. Scott denies responsibility, claiming in his first post-interview with Charlamagne Tha God he had no idea what was going on in the crowd and didn’t find out until just before the press conference.
The rapper has since lost numerous endorsements and is the subject of more than 140 lawsuits, which also name guest artist and fellow rapper Drake, promoter Live Nation and numerous others associated with NRG Park and Scoremore Holdings.
