Tuskegee Band Protest of University Marches On with Student Support

In Summary

Tuskegee’s Marching Crimson Piper Band announced they will not perform at university-related events and football games until demands are met.

Students at Tuskegee University continue to support the institution’s marching band in their protest against the university by refusing to perform at any events.

The Tuskegee Marching Crimson Piper Band have announced that they will not perform at any games or other university-related events until their list of demands are met. According to a tweet from Tuskegee Student Government, lack of funding, recruitment efforts, and leadership are the most pressing issues from members of the band.

The Marching Crimson Piper Band did not perform at the university’s homecoming game with Lane College.

According to an article in ABC affiliate WTVM 9, Tuskegee President Charlotte P. Morris released a statement saying university leaders received the letter of demand and look forward to discussing and responding to student concerns.

The report also states administration and students have met with each other, but there is no further announcement regarding the outcome of the meeting.
