According to police, more than 100 people gathered at a home on E. Commerce Street in Fairfield Township on Saturday night. Community leaders say the gathering was for a ‘90s themed party attended by mostly young people excited about the warm weather.
State police said a 30-year-old man, and a 25-year-old woman later identified as Asia Hester, were the people killed. All of the injured victims were adults, and one remains in critical condition.
Governor Murphy released a statement Sunday stating, “Let there be no mistake: This despicable and cowardly act of gun violence only steels our commitment to ensuring New Jersey leads the nation in passing and enforcing strong and commonsense gun safety laws. No community should ever experience what occurred last night in Fairfield.”
Anyone with information on the shooting at the party is urged to come forward and contact police with information. A press conference with officials from New Jersey State Police and the state attorney general will be held at 10 a.m.
Today at 10:00 AM, @NewJerseyOAG, @NJSP Superintendent Colonel Pat Callahan, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, and I will provide a briefing on Saturday’s mass shooting.
