UK Broadcaster Compares Black Doctor’s Hair to Alpaca, Wants to ‘Pet it’

A broadcaster in the UK compared a Black doctor’s hair to an Alpaca on live TV Thursday, according to Vice.

Dr. Zoe Williams was a guest on ITV’s This Morning to discuss tips to staying healthy, including “how your health can be benefited from gardening to alpacas” when host Eamonn Holmes commented on her hair.

“Your hair reminds me of an alpaca today, so it does. You just want to pet it, don’t you, it’s very alpaca-ish,” Holmes said.

A smiling Williams said, “Don’t touch my hair.”

Holmes took to Twitter and apologized for his “attempt” at being funny with Williams.

“Hey everyone out there. If my attempt at being humorous with my friend @DrZoeWilliams was misjudged, I am mortified and humbly apologize to anyone who was offended,” he wrote.

In 2019, Holmes faced criticism for calling Meghan Markle “uppity,” which many viewed as racist, according to HuffPost.

Holmes said that he hadn’t learned anything stemming from the Markle incident.

“People can make their own judgment whether they think it was a deliberately racist remark or not, so that’s all I have to say about that. People can have their own views on it,” he told Metro at the time.
