United Negro College Fund appoints first Black chairman in its history

A founding member of the Peachtree Providence Partners was elected to the United Negro College Fund’s board of directors, becoming the first Black board chairman for the historic Black organization.

Milton H. Jones Jr., 77, is tasked with growing the endowments of 37 historically Black colleges and universities that fall under the UNCF umbrella, Yahoo News reported.

Jones is the vice-chairman of Meharry Medical College Board of Trustees, board member of 100 Black Men of America and co-chair of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors, on Metro Atlanta YMCA’s advisory boards, Boy Scouts and the Commerce Club, per reports.

“Since 1944, UNCF has played an integral role in changing the life trajectory for each student it has served, and l look forward to continuing that legacy,” Jones said.

“Milton brings a wealth of business knowledge,” said Dr. Michael Lomax, UNCF President and CEO. “and a thoughtful and collaborative leadership approach that will help us thrive and continue to drive UNCF’s and our HBUCs’ impact and growth.”

Past board chairs have included John D. Rockefeller III; Revolon’s former president and CEO Jack Stahl; and Michael H. Jordan, the former chairman of PepsiCo Worldwide Foods.
