By: Maximillian Boudreaux

Vanessa Bryant, wife of former Los Angeles Laker Player Kobe Bryant, reached an agreement on lawsuit filed by her mother, Sofia Urbreta Laine, over unpaid wages for her alleged work as nanny and personal assistant for the Bryant family.

The complaint was originally filed back in December of 2020 in California by Laine., According to court documents Laine, 68, had work for the family as a personal assistant and nanny but was never fully compensated. Laine also claimed that Bryant’s husband had made a pact to take care of her financially before died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020.

“Unfortunately, Kobe Bryant’s promises did not see the light of day as he is now deceased, and Vanessa Bryant took each and every step she could to void and cancel all of Kobe Bryant’s promises,” according to the lawsuit. Vanessa Bryant did not intend to honor any of the Bryants’ representations, agreements or promises at any stage.

Vanessa Bryant lost her husband, Kobe Bryant, and 13-year-old daughter Ginna in a plane crashed in 2020 that took the lives of seven other victims. Bryant told People magazine, “Her mother is continuing to try and find ways to extort a financial windfall from our family.”

Bryant, who has been a stay-at-home mother since marrying Kobe, claims that her mother never worked for her or her husband as a personal assistant and she never took care of her granddaughters. However, Bryant pointed out that her family has supported her mother for nearly two decades now.

The lawsuit was settled on Friday, however the terms of that agreement were not disclosed.
