Icon Whoopi Goldberg, one of only 16 people to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, joined BNC’s Start Your Day.
The actress, author, producer, director and co-host of The View spoke with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill about various topics on Wednesday.
When asked how important it is for networks like BNC to give a unique perspective to the Black community, Goldberg said it is important.
“Anytime we can have conversations and make people aware of what’s going on in the world they may not be living in it’s important,” she said.
Migraines
As the COVID-19 pandemic has been on center stage in the world for almost a year, many other ailments like migraines have been pushed to the background.
Goldberg said she’s suffered from migraines for about 40 years.
“They are devastating. Migraines stop everything in its track.”
The intense headaches are the third most prevalent illness in the world affecting 12% of the population.
After hearing about Nurtec ODT from Khloe Kardashian, Goldberg spoke to her doctor about giving it a try.
“I took it and the relief was really fast. Within an hour. It was like nothing I had ever tried before,” she said when talking about her experience.
COVID-19 Vaccines
President Joe Biden says enough doses of COVID-19 vaccines will be available to vaccinate all American adults by the end of May and Goldberg says she plans on getting it.
“I think anything that makes it better is a good idea. I’m going to be getting my shot. I’m of the age,” she said. “Life is looking good, life is looking up for America.”
Golden Globes
When Reed asked Goldberg about the Golden Globes, the icon admitted that she did not watch this year.
She says the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which has no Black members, needs to catch up.
Hill asked the actress about her experiences and Hollywood’s continued issues with racism.
“I would not just put it in Hollywood. There’s racism everywhere,” she said before detailing steps on how to conquer the issue.
“It’s not enough anymore to say ‘This is racist. That is racist.’ The question is how do you fix it,” she said.
Goldberg referenced the need for more representation in casting and writing.
“If I’m not a writer. I gotta find somebody who is a writer. I gotta make sure there are opportunities for all spectrums of cinema,” she said.
Hosts Sharon Reed and Mike Hill agreed Goldberg gave sound advice on Hollywood’s need to diversify.
You can watch Start Your Day on BNC weekday mornings from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. EST.
