YouTube to Produce Documentary of LeBron James’ ‘I Promise’ School

In Summary

The YouTube Originals documentary will provide an inside look at the first academic year inside LeBron James’ “I Promise” School.

LeBron James is taking his talents to the big screen, again.

Not another “Space Jam,” but a 102-minute documentary on YouTube Originals.

The film will tell the story of the first academic year of James’ “I Promise” school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. James opened the school in 2018 with a goal in mind to close the educational achievement gap in his hometown.

The documentary will also display the day-to-day ups –and downs, success and life-altering impact of the school’s staff, students and families.

The film, “I Promise,” is directed by Marc Levin and debuts Sept. 28, at 12 p.m. EST.

The school follows a STEM curriculum, which is based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines  science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“It’s not instant oatmeal that we’re creating here,” James says in the documentary. “You can’t just put the oatmeal pack in the bowl and putting it in the microwave and we’re ready to go. We’re good with dealing with the process.”
